I have been an occupational therapist for 23 years and am currently registered as an occupational therapist in NZ and the UK. I graduated in 2002 from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK, and I received my Master of Health Sciences with a Rehabilitation Endorsement from Otago University in 2016. Throughout my career I have worked in a multitude of settings in the UK for the NHS, and in NZ for ACC and MOH. I have experience in acute hospital wards for neuro, medicine and orthopedics, short-term neurological rehabilitation wards, a slow-stream neurological rehabilitation centre, community and vocational rehabilitation, and wheelchair services. My clinical specialty is neurological conditions like traumatic brain injuries, stroke, Parkinson\u2019s, Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord injury and dementias, but I also help people with chronic conditions like chronic fatigue, heart and lung problems, cancer, anxiety, depression, long covid, diabetes and complications like visual impairment and amputations. I have experience in housing modifications, wheelchair and equipment provision as adjuncts to my rehabilitation skills. In occupational therapy the focus is not solely on the disease\/diagnosis but on problem-solving and returning to the activities that are meaningful to you using OT fundamentals. Furthermore, I don\u2019t separate mental from physical health, as evidence suggests people with mental health issues are more likely to get physical illnesses, and a physical medical condition can still be experienced as traumatic and affect mood.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Whole Support Services Journey<\/div>

The original idea for Whole Support Services began on a trip to Antarctica in 2013. That planted the seed and set me on my way to complete my Masters. I focused on family, cultural, psychosocial and cognitive factors affecting rehabilitation in addition to the core rehabilitation principles. My Master\u2019s project entitled \u201cOpportunities for a meaningful life for working-aged adults with neurological conditions living in residential aged care facilities: A review of qualitative research.<\/a>\u201d was published in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy in 2017.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After that I found my work in the health system just wasn\u2019t fulfilling; I could see all the help I could offer as an occupational therapist wasn\u2019t included, valued or desired within the current health system. It has a different purpose, priorities and objectives to those I want to uphold. So what would become Whole Support Services began to come together during a trip to the USA in 2017. I studied business skills like sales and marketing, digital media and information technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, financial management and finally in 2018 it began to fall into place.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For several years I have been writing, proofreading and editing medical or social documents for myself or others from academia, ACC and MOH employers, self-help and real life \/ contemporary writers or social enterprises. Some of my writing and editing projects can be found in the online shop. I also have a background of teaching English as a second language (TEFL certification), educating, mentoring and supervising other occupational therapists and students. I am available to provide professional supervision, speaking engagements and group workshops, though it is not a core component of the current mission for Whole Support Services.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I love to act, dance, sing, and travel. These hobbies all really centre around communication, storytelling and relationships. As an actress you might catch me in the odd TV show, movie or play as I have extensive acting and vocal experience both on stage and on camera. I am also regularly involved in volunteering in community events, mainly in community theatre or the Latin dance community.<\/p>

I have traveled extensively and engaged with people from many nations. I speak French, German and Spanish (not fluently by any means) but I always take every chance to practice.<\/p>

I have been a foster parent offering respite or long term care to children for 10 years now, which is a contributing factor to my passion for strengthening the family unit in the face of adversity. I was a foster cat parent for the SPCA until I got my cat Foxy from them. She is the star of the OT video on this site! As she has a chronic contagious cat flu we can’t help any other cats for the moment!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

As Whole Support Services offers so many services and is always working on a variety of different projects there is a great team of people in the background. between then they do so many vital things that ensure clients get great service, projects get completed and the business keeps running. Tasks like the business admin, assisting me with different aspects of the projects right through to the typical aspects of running, managing and developing a business. The team are vital to ensure Whole Support Services can keep helping as many people as possible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
